End of Camp Reflection

Throughout the five days that I have been here, I have learned a lot. When I began, I didn't know how to use the Manual function or even what aperture meant. Before the first day was even over, I already knew what these meant and how to properly set them in different situations. Alice's teaching style was extremely helpful in reaching the level of comprehension that I have in the past five days. She taught us the material in ways that we could easily understand, and then let us practice what we learned and ask questions. I'm really glad I found out about this program, and hope that there is another one next year. I'll definitely participate.

Day One: Downtown

Today, we went downtown with several items or techniques to use in our pictures. We used our new knowledge of manipulation of depth of field to have more controlover what the images ended up looking like. We then uploaded them into Adobe Photoshop Elements to organize them.

 

Day Two: The Beach

Today, we learned about composition and how to organize our images to create certain feelings and emotions. We went to the beach use different techniques (such as point of view, repetition in color and shape, filling the entire frame, and using horizon lines) to create the tone we wanted.

Day Three: Portraits and Lighting [Part One]

We started outside today, using natural lighting to shoot portraits of each other. We grouped up and used both defusers and reflectors to manipulate the light. We had to be in front of and behind the camera, which required us to give and take instructions.

Day Three: Portraits and Lighting [Part Two]

Later, we went inside to shoot in the studio. We learned how to adjust, set up, and take apart lighting and divided into two groups. One group did a study on lighting in one room while the other group had the opportunity to actually use the studio (complete with lights and props) and vice versa.
